Get ready to strip your color work down to its core, the elements and principles of art and color theory. Instead of following formulas, you’ll learn to think through value, chroma, temperature, and hue so every choice feels intentional and expressive.

Through hands-on exploration with mannequins and your own stash of color, you begin to understand why some choices vibrantly stand out while others feel calm and serene. That understanding becomes the foundation for creating your own formulas, placements, and methods. These are tools you can use with any client and any product line.

In this Lab you won’t be copying someone else’s approach. You are learning to observe the effects of contrast, understand how placement changes perception, and notice the subtleties of saturation and temperature in a way that informs every decision. By engaging with these elements directly, you develop a visual toolkit that allows you to make choices that feel intentional, expressive, and aligned with both your vision and your client’s.

Chroma & Contrast is also about freedom. Once you understand why certain color choices work, you can experiment with confidence. You begin to reach for new formulas, try new application approaches, and create work that feels fully aligned with your aesthetic. This is how your technical knowledge becomes your creative superpower.

The Lab is designed to give you space to explore, observe, and reflect. You will not only improve your technical outcomes but also gain a vocabulary to articulate why a look feels bold, quiet, vibrant, or subtle. By the end, your work will feel deliberate, expressive, and fully in your control.
